Research shows that we spend up to 90 percent of our time listening but only 10 percent of us listen effectively. 'I am an educator passionate about leveraging podcasts to improve listening skills and narrow educational disparities. For example, educator Adam Buchbinder does an excellent job of showing off his talents and knowledge in his LinkedIn summary: You know your profession better than anyone else, right? Well, then show that to those who look at your LinkedIn page. Dedicate just a couple of sentences to your role and be clear. The best summaries give a taste of the person's expertise and previous roles without getting too bogged down in the everyday, nitty-gritty details. Instead, condense what it is that you do down into a manageable paragraph. What exactly do you do, anyway? Your regular job duties and work history may cover a whole range of things, but you shouldn't babble in your LinkedIn profile summary. Don't make the mistake of writing: 'I'm a funny, warm person…' in your summary. Paint the picture and let it come through naturally! Explain what you do (briefly) Whether you're a comedic genius or just a warm and friendly person, you need to show that to the reader in your writing. Whilst you may think that starting with a joke is risky business, Craig manages to make it work. So it is no surprise that I now work in an industry which rewards me for helping people realize their potential and setting them on their way to achieving great things.' 'After the realization set in that I will not be making it as a pro footballer or Wimbledon great (I wasn't close), I spent many evenings trawling the local press and digital job boards seeking the dream role that was out of reach. Here's part of his LinkedIn profile summary: Craig Japp, a solution leader, knows how to write a summary that really flows. This technique is used in the best LinkedIn profile summaries, and it can really work wonders when you get it right. This is where your LinkedIn profile summary differs most from your CV, because you can let some of that award-winning personality shine through in your writing. They have no idea of who you are or how very charming you may be. The recruiter or company reading your LinkedIn profile summary has not met you face to face. Save those minor details for your autobiography instead. Avoid writing too much though ‒ no one wants to read your life story. When writing your LinkedIn summary, it's important that you are authentic and honest about your experience. So be yourself! It might sound cliche, but it works. Plus, there's the fact that you have to back everything you write up with facts and evidence. For one thing, everyone can see your page and someone can easily call you out on those little 'white lies' you're telling. It should go without saying that lying on your LinkedIn profile summary is a recipe for disaster. Instead, you'll be able to write something truly compelling. Having a clear target audience will help you find a core message and avoid a long-winded, boring description. Much like your CV, this brief overview needs to show people that you absolutely have what it takes to take the next step in your career.īefore you even dream of writing that first sentence, consider who will be reading it. In that case, you should be writing a LinkedIn summary that sells you and your skills. Ask yourself a simple question: Who do you want to read your summary and, crucially, what do you want from them?įor example, if you're a candidate on the hunt for a new role, you may be targeting recruiters and hiring managers. Target the audience you wantĪ hundred different people may end up reading your LinkedIn summary example, but that doesn't matter if they're not the right people. Use these best practices to create an introduction that makes you stand out. You can consider it a less formal version of the personal statement you include on your CV.īecause your LinkedIn profile summary is your first chance to make an impression on the social networking site, make sure it's the best it can be. You can also take advantage of key search terms that will increase the likelihood that your profile will turn up in search results. It is your opportunity to share who you are as a professional, what makes you unique, important accomplishments and even some of your personality. LinkedIn is an essential tool for your job search and career - so you need to make the most of it. That means creating a detailed, comprehensive LinkedIn profile ‒ including a profile summary.Īlso considered your 'About' section, your LinkedIn profile summary is the space on your profile where you introduce yourself to the digital world. LinkedIn is the place online where you can connect to other professionals in your field and build your network. Make a strong first impression on LinkedIn. Nut is well made, I always like to run the strings I'm using through the grooves a little bit to soften it up then add a bit of nut lubricant (usually Planet Waves stuff, but it's probably just Vaseline), I think it makes a difference. The tuners are fine, standard Fender stuff. I think it's a simple design that offers stability and good intonation. The 3-way switch is an open-type and actually of good quality, but the switch tip kept unscrewing itself a bit of blue Loctite would probably not be a bad idea. Knobs are 6mm metric diameter with set screw for the metric spec solid shaft pots. Lot of vintage Les Paul dudes swear by this wiring, and it's interesting to see it in a factory Fender. So the volume pot stays bright as you turn it down, but the tone pot cuts volume as you turn it down. 022 uF poly cap, and they are wired in the 50s wiring (tone pot parallel to output, not input), which is interesting. The pots are decent quality 500k no-name import, w/. So you might want to do this, but I'm saying this more as a hypothetical than anything that I actually experienced, because this pickguard didn't actually suffer from such static. This never happens with shielded pickguards. If your pick strikes the pickguard and your guitar is under some gain, you can sometimes hear crackle if you have an unshielded pickguard. There isn't a gigantic piece of foil like you see on Japanese Mustang pickguards, which, by the way, does make a difference. There's foil on the pickguard, but it's in two small pieces. There's shielding, but it's not obsessive. Quality of wiring is not bad, but not stellar either. I don't particularly think the split tone is all that useful by itself, but it makes the middle position more versatile because in stock form, it actually provides a very nice sounding hum-cancelling pair with the neck. The tone pot can be pulled out to split the pickup, which is nice to see in a stock guitar. I think once you get the string heights right, they provide a really good balance. The bridge pickup is in that nice low 8-8.5 Kohm range, and the neck pickup measures at 4-4.5, and has six AlNiCo flat magnets underneath a solid cover, which is a more vintage correct design than Fender Standard ceramic pickups. How about the sound? I think it's actually quite good. Luckily, both of these are very simple changes. Not only is this bad for tuning, but it broke a B string a couple hours after it was installed. I've seen some vintage Fenders like that, too, but how do you justify this? This means that the B and E strings are going in at an angle next to sharp bent metal. The string tree is of the vintage type, which isn't necessarily terrible, but they didn't put a spacer underneath it, so it's screwed all the way down to the wood. To be fair, we use wireless units which probably put a little bit extra weight on the output jack when playing seated and the strap isn't supporting it, but regardless, a Switchcraft jack has never failed during that kind of use. The output jack is of a cheap import type, and more importantly, it failed during a practice, so it really is a crap output jack. There are two parts that are crap on the stock guitar: string tree and output jack. Ultimately, to me, a guitar's quality is not about the things screwed into it, but more about its neck, overall vibe, and its potential. It just means that I have a deep parts bin that I was willing to hit up to get that guitar just right. This doesn't necessarily mean the stock guitar is bad. Now, it's probably clear from the pictures that the guitar has not stayed stock. It's never going to look washed out when you hit it with stage lights. There's real depth to the finish and when it catches stage lights just right, it does wonderful things. Still pictures do not adequately show how stunning this finish really is because it's not a flat pastel finish as you'd expect a surf green to be. But I've gotten to know it inside and out, and to experience it as a player, as a band guitar tech, and also as a bandmate hearing the guitar regularly, which means I think I can be relatively objective about it. If you're looking to make this vegan, maybe try agar agar powder in place of the gelatin and Lyle's Golden Syrup or light corn syrup instead of honey? I've been experimenting with making vegan cheese (!), so I'm becoming more and more familiar with vegan magic ingredients. So I'm often looking for ways to get some of it into my children without opening up a box of overly sugary JELLO. Gelatin is actually quite healthy for you. So even though this is really so simple as to almost not even qualify as a “recipe,” there were enough tips and tricks that I picked up along the way that I thought it was worthy of its own post. The bad news? You must mix the puree with at least as much actual fruit juice or the “JELLO” simply won't set up. The good news is that you most certainly can make homemade “JELLO” gelatin with fruit purees. So I complicated things a bit by testing fruit purees in place of juice. I do always have different types of fruit, both fresh and frozen at home. I make that at least a couple of times a year. And that's only for my gluten free Hawaiian Rolls since they're some of the best burger buns around, and my gluten free pineapple upside down cake. I don't generally keep any juice in the house other than pineapple. How pretty are these pineapple and blueberry “JELLO” flavors? No additives, no chemicals, no food dyes. When it's fresh, those types of fruit can make it difficult for the gelatin to set up properly. Strawberry tops the list for me.īut when you're adding whole fruit to the gelatin, avoid chunks of pineapple, kiwi, mango, papaya or mango. When it's summertime and fresh berries are affordable and at their peak, those are the flavors of homemade jello that I'm most likely to make. Press a few slices of your favorite fruit into the mixture, then finish chilling until it's completely set. But don't you want to know at least a little bit more?Īt the very least, you'll want to know the best way to put some fresh fruit in there and make sure it doesn't sink to the bottom. Just let the gelatin chill for about 45 minutes in the refrigerator until it's beginning to set. If you don't really want to know much more and just want to get to the recipe, feel free to scroll down to the bottom for the video and the recipe. I'm boiling it all down for you here into just the facts. But, as with most intriguing things in life, the closer I looked, the more deliciously complicated it all became. Making this easy homemade “JELLO” gelatin really requires just two ingredients: juice + gelatin. So easy, with only a few ingredients-and it's actually good for you. Ditch the box, and make homemade jello style gelatin at home. Specifically, they make good off-season quivers when you’re practicing for the hunting season.įinally, as you might guess, back quivers tend to be for archery enthusiasts, role players, etc. On the other hand, hip quivers are convenient options for shooting at archery targets on the range because you can take them on and off so easily and store other items you need. Two, since they attach to the bow, they’re easier to transport out into the woods. One, they’re stable with nothing rattling around and making noise. These days bow-mounted quivers are by far the most popular type used for bow hunting for two reasons. Things To Consider When Choosing A Quiver Quiver TypeĬertain quiver types are better suited to certain archery activities. Some even make their own quivers and use native wood to make their own bows. When compared to the other two, back quivers can hold a lot of arrows.īack quivers are primarily used by traditional archers that choose recurve bows. To nock an arrow, you just reach behind your head and pull one out. They loop around one shoulder and under the other arm, allowing the quiver to hang off your back. RELATED: Bear Grizzly Recurve Review Hip Quiversīack quivers are the classical Robin-Hood-style models. If you choose a bow mounted quiver, be sure to tune your bow with the quiver attached, because it may shoot differently without the quiver. Most bow mounted quivers are for the compound bow vs recurve, but there are a few for recurves as well. There is nothing between the grips and the hood except for the shaft or shafts that connect them and the mounting mechanism. On the other end, some kind of hood protects the arrowheads, usually with soft foam or fabric on the inside. On one end, grips wrap around the arrow shaft and hold it steady. Most bow-mounted quivers have the same fundamental design. The problem with these is that they change the weight distribution of the bow more dramatically, but you can actually take advantage of this and use the quiver as a stabilizer. However, you will sometimes see those that are oriented perpendicular. The vast majority of bow-mounted quivers attach parallel to the bow itself, with the arrows running in the same direction as the bowstring. Most bow mounted quivers attach directly to the riser, but some are made to attach to your bow sight. Manufacturers use a wide variety of methods to facilitate this attachment, from fixed bolts to camlocks to slides. Bow-mounted quivers are those that you can attach directly to your bow. And making their connection even more emotional, more vulnerable, was the knowledge that time is ticking: On Sunday, in the season’s final program of “Jewels,” Janzen, a standout principal, will give his farewell performance.Īfter they walked toward each other, meeting at the center of the stage with slow and steady steps, their bodies continued in a pattern of sweeping together and apart. They instilled the ballet with an impeccable, understated grandeur. (It reminds me of an empty high school swimming pool.) But that could hardly diminish the sophistication of its pas de deux, danced by Sara Mearns and Russell Janzen. The elegant, crystalline “Diamonds,” set to Tchaikovsky and evoking imperial Russian ballet, came as a relief - though its gleaming blue set is the biggest eyesore of all the “Jewels” décor. Less seamless was Emilie Gerrity who, with too much anguish in her expression, wavered between control and hesitation, in a solo of her own. In their pas de deux, Angle and Woodward shaped the notes as they came together and separated like easy, rippling waves. His elegant, able partnering sets a dancer free, and Woodward - French, like Violette Verdy, the originator of her part - was transcendently herself, glowing with her own indelible perfume.ĭancing cleanly and clearly, Woodward used her imagination to great effect in a solo focusing on the arms as they curved and parted the air, swooping to linger by her face or reaching behind to form a kind of innocence meeting ecstasy. Leading roles included debuts for Indiana Woodward and Tyler Angle. Saturated in green like a dewy forest and set to Fauré, it pays homage to French Romanticism. “Jewels” is a banquet of Balanchine starting with “Emeralds,” the evening’s most subtle, most mysterious and, because of that, most fragile ballet. During the evening, the sections’ different looks and sensations were apparent, but most clearly felt was the singular choreographic hand stringing them together. “Jewels” loosely references three schools of ballet: French, American and Russian. These were jewels in the flesh.Īs for the performance? Certainly, joy was in the air - though perhaps, in the case of “Rubies,” an unfortunate overflow. To see so many dancers fill the stage after “Diamonds” - more than 350, including a few from its 75-year-old beginnings - as well as inimitable stars like Suzanne Farrell, Allegra Kent, Patricia McBride and Edward Villella - made for a poignant, physical statement. (The music was performed live, though before the show, members of the New York City Ballet Orchestra held a rally in front of Lincoln Center’s plaza to protest delays in contract negotiations.) On Tuesday, it opened City Ballet’s 75th anniversary at Lincoln Center, which included a special tribute to the dancers who have been part of the company since 1948 when it was formed by Balanchine and the writer and philanthropist Lincoln Kirstein. “Jewels,” as it came to be called, is an occasion as well as a ballet. “Emeralds” possesses the fragrant earthiness and secrecy of nature “Rubies” is heat and playfulness, with the games and posturing of a summer scape in New York City and “Diamonds” casts a dazzling spell of cool refinement that wavers between soft and hard. But there was a unifying idea: precious stones. When, in 1967, the curtain rose at New York City Ballet on his opulent triptych, known as the first full-length plotless ballet, it had no unifying title. “I like the color of gems, the beauty of stones,” he wrote in “101 Stories of the Great Ballets.” George Balanchine, by his own admission, always admired jewels, a quality he attributed to his Georgian roots. |
